A report from Grantmakers for Education and The Philanthropy Roundtable discuss the fact that "if this country is going to come anywhere near meeting its escalating expectations for public schools, we've got to create significant numbers of schools that are different in fundamental ways from the schools of the 20th century. Can we get the kinds of schools we need by changing the schools we have?"

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools released on July 21, 2009 their summary of a summary by major issue where charters have won and lost as well as where battles are still undecided. Following the summary, they provide more detailed wrap-ups for each state, including West Virginia.
